Well… Here it is! my first video post. Man!! was that hard to do. Im really not used to this side of the camera… (obviously)

As you may or maybe know i work with videoproduction most of the time, working with bigger HD cameras etc. When compared to the bigger HD cameras this camera STILL comes out on top. At least when it comes to image quality and low light performance.

The images that comes out of the 5D clearly beats the hell out of the sony mid-range HD cameras like the EX1, EX3 and the PMW 350.Not only is the images WAY sharper, you also get the DOF of a 35mm camera… And that’s a big thing when it comes to commercial work.

So is there a downside to the 5D compared to a regular HD camera? Sadly yes… The audiopart of the 5D is nothing but a disaster… The Mic Pre-Amps are just to weak to deliver a decent signal. But luckily there are ways around this… We use a Zoom H4 to record the audio separately, works like a charm!

There are also a few more things  to consider when filming with the 5D. Things like lenses, filters, mounts etc. When i was in Norefjell  filming the N3 race i used a Cavision 4×4 mattebox (shown left) with graduated ND filters as well as some color filters. This helps out a lot with blocking the unwanted light as well as adding stability to the camera. For the N3 race we only used 3 lenses… The 24-70mm f2.8L, the 50mm f1.4 and the 100mm f2.8 macro. To be honest a really missed a bigger zoom. Something like the 70-200mm or the 100-400mm but what the hell. Lesson learned :)

I was out last night shooting some night stuff with the 5D mkII. I was really eager to see how this Megapixel monster would behave under long exposures. I had no idea what to expect but i really gotta say that it performed very well. The dynamic range is good and the detail you get out of the 22 Mpx sensor is just unbelievable. Man is the detail impressive!! I’ve posted some 100% crops and some additional photos for you after the break. All shot on ISO100.

I’ve been working a lot lately so there haven’t been so mush time for the blog… I’ve been keeping busy testing the 5D mkII and working on my personal projects, lots of fun but lots and lots of work! Im trying to put together a exhibition of 50 photos called “Places” I guess Im about halfway there, most of the shots are finished. But now comes the BIG job of selecting the 50… huh… More on that later.

Now it’s finally done! The N3 movie from Norefjell has finally left the edit suit. I’m really happy with how this came out, considering that it’s done in 2 days give and take. The whole thing is shot on the Canon 5D mkII, edited in Final Cut Pro and graded with Magic Bullet Looks. So sit back, relax and ENJOY!
